Fund Raising for Outdoor Net

If Stuart Hodgson hasn't already been in touch with you here is a copy of a letter he sent out to all those friends, supporters, current and ex-players of EHCC regarding the building of our new outdoor net.  If you would like to make a donation then this would be very gratefully received.  Many thanks.

Dear Supporter

Construction of an all weather practice net

As you are aware, East Harlsey Cricket Club provides sporting opportunities for three junior and two adult cricket teams. Club numbers continue to grow year on year and the club provides excellent playing opportunities for local juniors to further their sporting abilities.

The club wants to continue to develop these younger players but in order to do this, it is vital that the club has an outdoor all weather practice net at the ground.  In the past, practice sessions have taken place on the outfield, however, last season, due to the wet summer, many of these practice sessions had to be cancelled due to the ground being unfit.

You will no doubt also have seen the number of youngsters who play impromptu games of cricket in front of the pavilion when senior games are being played. We think you will agree that these current facilities are not conducive to improving batting and bowling skills!

Having an all weather practice net would not only transform these impromptu practices, it would also give the scheduled evening practice sessions a real boost by providing a safe environment for all involved, enabling the coaches to give more structured sessions. It might even encourage our adults into a little practice!

The cost of the project is approximately £7200 on a self build basis. The club has players with the skills required to complete the project but it needs funding to enable the project to proceed.

The club has secured grants totalling some £3000 and £1500 is being paid out of club funds. This leaves a shortfall of £2700. To satisfy the terms of the grants, the project must be completed within six months. The grants are not paid into the club account until completion of the project and the club has very limited funds.

The club is asking you to support the fundraising by giving a donation towards the practice net. If you run a business, you may wish a contribution in the way of sponsorship or advertising, which may be offset against tax. In the event of the club receiving donations above the required target of £2700, any additional money will be put towards a new scoreboard which is also required.

In order to gauge the level of support, we would be grateful if you would complete the attached reply form and return it by 05 February 2009 at the latest. If you would like to see how the project is progressing, please look at the club website.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me on 01609 771485. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

Yours Sincerely,

Stuart Hodgson
